under the tree

it was quiet and simple, but no less special. we had a wonderful christmas, we hope that you did too. this year I enjoyed deciding, planning, and starting new traditions for our family. this is my favorite thing about the holidays now. finding beauty in and embracing our rich cultures always has been my favorite thing about us but it is extra special now that we are parents. my eritrean heritage that has been watered down with american traditions and my tall dark and handsome’s strong german, catholic background (reinforced by currently living in germany) can make for a very interesting combination of traditions. we often serve one eritrean dish and then follow the german custom of opening gifts on christmas eve night. all in all, it was wonderful.
