ornaments & creating traditions

cutting salt dough ornaments

i got this fantastic idea from my girlfriend katie who made these with her son judah. we had the best time making some too! it is easy and so much fun- not only for children.

and painting them

for the last few years my favorite part of the holidays has been planning, and starting new traditions for our family. we are not that young but we have a young family and i genuinely enjoy to create memories for the little ones.

my eritrean heritage that has been watered down with american traditions and my tall dark and handsome’s strong german, catholic background (reinforced by currently living in germany) can make for a very interesting combination of traditions. finding beauty in and embracing our rich cultures always has been my favorite thing about us but it is extra special now that we are parents.

oh that is such a cool idea Elsa! I might just do that with my two younger ones. You’re right about being proud of her ancestry, I’ve got a few so it’s hard to embrace them all but I feel closest to being spanish and irish.

I love these traditions from Germany. Christmas is so special overthere.
I had german friends in the states and I loved watching them celebrating christmas
