3, indeed a magic number
the age of fantasy is here- the moon turned 3 this week and it is a decadent story without end- the fervor that went into movement- learning to stand, walk, speak, and think is now flourishing in imaginative play
it is so very sweet- he tells me he is the mama and i the “kind” (child) then reads a bedtime story, sings, prays, and tells me that it’s time to sleep and that he loves me just like his papa does for him every night- i close my eyes with a huge, bigger then my heart smile on my face
he points to a corner and says “da ist ein böeser blauer stier” (there is a blue mean bull) and we run around the whole house running away from the bull
two bites out of his sandwich: ”es ist ein hund!” (it’s a dog!)
crawls under a laundry basket: “ich bin eine schildkröte!” (i’m a turtle!)
sometimes he is a cat and meows to his heart’s content- i take the opportunity to play the mama cat
most of all he loves trains- it is pure joy to get on, ride, and get off of them
aligns all the shoes in the entry way and it’s a railway train, on hikes we are ordered to walk single file like a railway train
then there’s the drinking straw that becomes the tunnel and propped up feet, a bridge
we are charmed and captivated by his fierce intelliegence and this new element of intentional pretending that has entered and dominated his play
we are grateful to have him
