historic events
one of the things that i find very attractive about my husband is his life story. i am intrigued by it. i love to listen to him talk about all that he has seen, learned, and experienced growing up- especially about his life as a young man in communist east germany.
today marks the 2oth anniversary of the collapse of the berlin wall. it is fascinating to hear him describe life before and after this historic event and how it changed his life- i enjoy it so much. to witness, and live such a historic event is wealth beyond measure. i literally feel as though i am living with a piece of history.
not to mention, i am lucky girl that wall came down, or else i wouldn’t have my tall dark and handsome!
some historic events that i feel lucky to have witnessed are of course the election of barack obama, the ending of the civil war between eritrea and ethiopia, the dot.com era in the 90s, the evolution of the internet and the positive and negative impacts it has had on globalization…
there are so many. this is why i will always own my age- no hiding it, and will stand by it with pride, always . after all, your age is only a sum of your life’s experiences and i embrace with gratitude every year that i have lived to see, hear, meet someone, learn, or do something that has changed my life.

November 9th, 2009 at 8:32 pmHi Elsa,
What an intriguing thing to think………
If the not for the Berlin wall tumbling down,
You may never have met Thomas or have married him. Probably you would not have had the opportunity live in Germany. Or have your beautiful children. Probably, we may have never met.
It continually blows my mind to think how one tiny moment has the power to change everything else.
You NEVER know when you will turn the corner and bump into the rest of your life!
Big Love,
Constance

i own my age,
i embrace what i have witnessed.
the good—>The Beatles
the bad—> The Vietnam War
and am continually thankful for all i have seen
4 it makes me who i am 2day.
i am this among other things—>
The Beatles=my love of music,
having it around me, concerts, smiling…
The Vietnam War=my civic involvement against war,
active participation for peace, protests, crying…
who i am, indeed…
i looked at the moon
while men were WALKING on it, elsa!
and i do wonder
what my grandmother
would have thought of the micro-wave oven…
amazing times, everyday, all around us…

November 11th, 2009 at 1:48 pmOh historic indeed!
i like the idea of embracing one’s age - I’m proud to be a grandma. It often makes me chuckle when the girls ask about how things were when I was growing up - sometimes I think they think we were still in horse & buggy days, lol. Though some things haven’t changed as much as we thought they might by now - we’re not flying in our aircars yet like the Jetsons - it is still so amazing to think how many other things have changed in our lifetimes. It must be especially significant to think of those things, for you and your husband to have seen such massive changes up close and personal. Thank heavens that wall came down, for many, many reasons - but from now on when I think of how great it was that it came tumbling down, I will remember to be thankful also that it came down so that my blog friend Elsa could find her tall, dark and handsome husband!
